Judge Laurie Reis Brister was elected Judge, Division B, of the Sixth Judicial District Court on November 6, 2018 and was sworn in on March 8, 2019.  She was then re-elected on November 3, 2020.

Judge Brister enjoys speaking to the high schools in her district regarding the court system and civics education.  She also volunteers to teach law classes to the local police and sheriff’s departments and is a frequent speaker at prevention of Domestic Violence Events. Recently, Judge Brister worked to secure a drug court program for the Sixth Judicial District. The program is to begin in January 2021. She is also a member of the newly created Supreme Court Technology Commission.

Judge Brister is a member of the East Carroll Parish Library Board and First Baptist Church where she teaches the youth.

Before her election to the bench, Judge Brister served as an Assistant District Attorney for seventeen years, Magistrate for the Town of Lake Providence, Families in Need of Services Coordinator, Misdemeanor Probation Officer, Hearing Officer, Defense Attorney and Judicial Law Clerk.

She graduated from Louisiana State University in May 1988 with the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  In May of 1991 she obtained her Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU.

Judge Brister has been married to Andy Brister for twenty- nine years. Andy is a local attorney and owner of Brister Law firm.  They have two grown children, Allison and Jacob.
